An Introduction to Addiction Treatment in Northern California
We are seeing that California residents are struggling with both alcohol and drug addictions. The California Overdose Surveillance Dashboard reported that in 2020, there were 5,502 individuals who died from an opioid overdose, 3,946 of which were caused by fentanyl.
The National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics reported that our state has the highest number of alcohol-related deaths when compared to the rest of the country. This breaks down to approximately 11,000 deaths each year.

What to Expect From a Treatment Center in Northern California
At Singing Trees Recovery, we can offer you several different levels of care. To us, this means that we can work with you to address your needs with respect to your availability. We find that many of the individuals who come to Singing Trees Recovery benefit from a medically supervised detox. This means that you are giving your body time to cleanse itself from any drugs or alcohol that may be in your system. There is no denying that most find this process to be uncomfortable, but the truth is that detoxing can also be quite dangerous depending on your use and substance of choice. Because of this, we offer 24/7 medical supervision to make sure that your detox doesn’t lead to a health crisis.
After you complete your detox, you would be able to begin our rehab program. We offer a variety of lengths for our inpatient rehab program. This allows us to be mindful of the time that you’re able to set aside for treatment. Different lengths for your treatment include 2 weeks, 30 days, 60 days or 90 days. If you begin your treatment and later on decide that you would like to extend your treatment, we would be happy to adjust your treatment plan to reflect that as long as it’s beneficial to your recovery.
You may find yourself wondering the difference between the different lengths of programs. The simple answer is that the longer you stay, the more in-depth you are able to get with your treatment. With our 30 day program, the goal would be to help you rebuild your physical health, mental health, and spirituality. We would work with you to identify the key factors that contribute to your addiction. This could include external factors like places or people and internal factors such as stress and negative emotions. Once you have your triggers identified, we talk about ways that you can cope with these triggers.
We will also talk with you about addiction itself because we feel that knowledge is power. Learning the disease concept of addiction can be a validating experience when you learn of the changes that occur in our brains when we are addicted to substances. There are common behavioral changes as well that occur during the course of an addiction. Key components of our 30-day program include four individual sessions per week, 4 to 6 group sessions each day, an introduction to the first three steps of the 12 Step Program, as well as writing an autobiography about how drugs and alcohol impacted your life. Additionally, we can offer you and your loved ones Family Therapy during the weekends.
The 60-day program will build upon the skills you gained in the first 30 days of your stay. You will take a more thorough look at your individual concerns related to your addiction and work them into your treatment plan. You will also develop a strong relapse prevention plan to address your identified triggers. You will be able to continue attending Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) as well.
With our 90-day program, we are able to begin addressing any work or school goals that you may have. Our focus at this point will be talking about your return home and how you can do this in a healthy way. You will be able to identify any work or school goals you have, and we would support you in working towards those goals. At this point in your treatment, you would also be able to attend AA or NA meetings within the local community.
What to Expect From a Treatment Center in Northern California
When you begin looking at drug and alcohol rehab in Northern California, you will want to pay attention to where the program is located. You have two main options; choosing a program closer to home or one that would give you a bit of distance.
Both options have pros and cons, so you will have to think about which option feels right for you. Some find that having your treatment program closer to home is convenient and could be more comfortable than traveling. While others benefit greatly from having a bit of space from their home environment at the beginning of their recovery. Having some distance can home help you feel separated from the challenges and stress at home.
With California addiction treatment programs, you can also pay attention to the surrounding area. Do you feel that you would enjoy a treatment program that can offer you outdoor activities? This can include walks and swim as an example. If so, you will want to look for programs outside of major cities and suburbs.
When you begin looking at the treatment programs for alcohol treatment in Northern California, you will want to choose a program that uses evidence-based practices. This means that the approaches the counselors use in group and individual therapy have been found effective with addiction treatment. This is important because not all mental health concerns are treated the same, and you want to give yourself a running start with the best possible care you can have.
If you know of or suspect that you may have a mental health concern other than your addiction, you will want to choose a treatment center that is able to assess and treat mental health concerns. It is not uncommon for individuals who struggle with an alcohol or drug addiction to struggle with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. In many cases, drugs and alcohol can help a person cope with their mental health struggles.
We know that the path that leads to addiction looks different for everyone. So it makes sense that treatment for addiction needs to be different as well. With that being said, you will want to avoid addiction treatment programs that have a “cookie-cutter” approach. This means that every individual has the same treatment plan, and there are little to no changes for individual differences.
