Recover in Nature

Our Residential Program

If you find yourself reading this because you are looking for addiction treatment rehab in Northern California, we would like to recognize the strength it takes to recognize and accept that you are in need of help. Despite our best efforts, there is still a stigma associated with mental health concerns, especially addiction. This can serve as a barrier for some to get help and contribute to feelings of shame and guilt for struggling.

There are several different inpatient rehab facilities in northern California with varying levels of care for addiction treatment. This would include detoxification, inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient, and aftercare programs.

We will be talking specifically about inpatient rehab programs and giving you an idea of what to expect from this level of care.

What to Expect at a Residential Program

Before beginning an inpatient rehab program, you will meet with a medical provider who will determine if it is necessary for you to go to a drug detox center in Northern California, like ours, before beginning your treatment program. The goal of detox programs is to get all substances out of your system and monitor for any health concerns that may arise while you are going through this. You may be asked to attend informational groups during your detox, but it is unlikely that you will be asked to part take in a therapy process group or session because of discomforts that you may experience during withdrawal.

Once you have completed detox, or if you did not need one to begin with, you would then begin your inpatient rehab treatment. Every treatment provider will have their own twist on what their inpatient rehab entails. However, there are some common practices seen throughout various programs.

Typically, inpatient rehab programs have a variety of professionals on their staff. This can include various medical professionals, including a Medical Doctor, a Psychiatrist, a Psychologist, and a Nurse. Additionally, you will have Counselors and Therapists who help provide therapy. Some programs will have additional professionals for any specialized treatment that they provide. This could include Recreational therapists, Vocational Therapists, and Trauma Therapists.

You will find that while you are in an inpatient rehab program, your days are structured and planned for you. This will include meal times, group therapy, individual therapy, physical activity, and free time. We do this to help develop a routine for your day, and to help you know what to expect as the day progresses.

Therapy in Inpatient Treatment

Over the years, we have learned that group therapy tends to have a more substantial impact on addiction treatment when compared to individual therapy. Group therapy gives you the opportunity to relate to others and learn of similarities in your struggles. It also gives you the chance to learn what has worked for others, and provide feedback about what has been helpful for you. It is not uncommon for addiction to pull you away from friends and loved ones, making socializing and connecting with others in recovery overwhelming. By actively participating in group therapy, you can build up your confidence in your ability to participate in social settings successfully.

Individual therapy is often used in addition to group therapy. With individual therapy, you will meet one-on-one with a trained therapist or counselor. The goal of these sessions would be to dive into your personal struggles and experiences and tease out how they impacted your addiction. You may find that you have underlying mental health struggles that were covered up with drinking or drug use and work to learn how to manage those concerns. Individual sessions can help you discover goals for yourself in recovery and identify the steps necessary to meet those goals.

The length of inpatient rehab programs will vary. Common lengths from programming include 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days. The length of your program will be dependent on the severity of your symptoms, the presence of an additional mental health concern, and your insurance coverage. You should be aware of the expected length before you begin treatment. Keep in mind that this length could change during the course of your stay.

Inpatient vs. Outpatient: Which is Right for Me?

How can you decide if you need to look for an inpatient rehab program or an outpatient rehab program? The answer to this would be found by looking at your current struggle with your addiction.

If you are currently physically dependent on drugs or alcohol, experiencing withdrawal, unable to stop or limit your use, or have had a recent overdose, you likely should attend an inpatient rehab program. If you have never attended an inpatient program before, you should consider this a viable option. Inpatient programs give you a more thorough and rigorous treatment plan compared to an outpatient program.

Many individuals find that going to rehab at the beginning of their recovery is helpful because it gets them out of their home environment. Having triggers within your home, difficult relationships with family and friends, and career concerns can make it difficult to stop using. Inpatient rehab programs are a safe environment that allows you to focus primarily on yourself and your recovery.

A common recommendation for individuals who complete an inpatient rehab program is to continue treatment on an outpatient basis. This could include an aftercare program in northern California provided by your inpatient rehab or treatment at a local outpatient program near your home.

If you have a mild substance use disorder, or have just completed an inpatient program, then an outpatient rehab program could be the right fit for you. Outpatient programs will build upon the skills that you should have developed in an inpatient program and support you will you adjust to living at home.
